Notice of AGM for the Charter for Public Education Network Society
The AGM will be December 2, 2009 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the FPSE offices, fourth floor -- 550 W. 6th Ave., Vancouver. One block west of Cambie and the Canada Line's Olympic Village Skytrain station. Light refreshments will be served.
The Board of Directors is recommending a more narrowly focused strategy for the coming year based on deepening the discussion on assessment, curriculum, pedagogy, purposes and governance in a holistic way. Our main vehicle for this discussion will be our website. The board is proposing changes to the bylaws, including a reduction in the membership fee to one cent and a more assertive stance in challenging the autocratic agenda of government and advocating for the Charter principles. Members and interested public are most welcome.
Board Recommendations to the AGM
That the board recommend to the AGM that CPEN continue its advocacy of Charter principles with a specific mandate for the coming year, focusing on:
1. the use of the website as an open forum for critical discussion of education issues.
2. a link to the David Chudnovsky/CCPA project.
3. an assessment of the performance of the activities in fall 2010.
That bylaw Part 2 -- Membership be amended so that article 4 shall read, "There shall be one class of member, namely an individual member."
That the 2009 AGM set the membership dues for 2010 at one cent per year.
